Ethic and Moral Problems
Title: “Ethics Within Epidemics”: The Study of an Epidemic.
Author: Dr. Jack Davidson
Department: Theology/Philosophy/Class Lang
Abstract: As we near 120,000 fatalities from Covid-19 in the U.S. (written 6/22/20) the pandemic raises a host of scientific and ethical questions. We will explain some basic scientific concepts like “herd immunity,” RO (or R-naught, R-zero) and how it can go up or down due to compliance/noncompliance to certain practices in the population, and what a vaccine is. We will look at the Tuskegee Syphilis Trial, and what went right and wrong scientifically and ethically. We will explain mathematical modeling and simulation and build a simple model to see the average rate of infection before die out in a small apartment and raise ethical questions with respect to the pandemic.

Title: Mistakes and Errors When Hypothesis Testing.
Author: Dr. Jack Davidson
Department: Theology/Philosophy/Class Lang
Abstract: In this module we will look at a decision technique, useful in the face of uncertainty, known as the “hypothesis test.” We will learn that while hypothesis testing is not a perfect decision process and that errors can occur, the method also gives us an idea of what kind of error may occur and how often we can anticipate that error.
You will find modules within the following broad categories:
Each module has two components:
